"Sixty Years On" - Addendum - 1983 |
Epilogue . Index to years . Benstead Cup |
l. Mainly due to the efforts of Keith Parfitt and a willing band of helpers, the Intermediate Section set up in 1977, produced a strong group of new riders - in contrast to the General and Wayfarers' Sections who seldom, if ever, attracted new riders.
2. Keith was also one of the main promoters of a clubroom and the Guildford Boat House premises are now used once a month, often with members' slide shows and other attractions.
3. The original D.A. colours of Black, Silver and Royal Blue have been abandoned in favour of Green, White and Gold, partly to match the new D.A. badge but mainly because club jerseys in the new colours stand out more clearly in poor visibility.
4. River trips on the Wey by motor launch with 60-plus aboard have been features of the past two summers, the first ending with a meal in the clubroom, the second having a meal served aboard.
5. Easter 1981 and 1983 saw representatives of the D.A. attending the popular Cider Meet at St.Lo in Normandy.
6. Sadly, time claimed more of our older members, notably - Vic Barnard; Bernard Reeves; Reg.Pollard and Jack Thompson. Archie Benstead and George Spiller go on regardless, both now in their mid-nineties.
The hope is that generations yet unborn will find in the bicycle a way of life that gives freedom, health and a great sense of personal achievement.
