"Sixty Years On" - 1962

This year witnessed a steady influx of new arrivals with Hamish Smith*, the lusty Kevin Mahon (lust being the operative bit), Pete Emberson, Jimmy Thorpe and "Smudger" Smith.  In April both Sections staged invitation runs and each netted two or three new members while in July there was yet another loss to the Woking Section with the sudden death of Tom Keeble, an active member since the early 30's.  There was an Inter-D.A. sports day at Effingham in July and in September a slide show by Bernard Newman had to be cancelled owing to the speaker's illness.

In October the death of C.T.C. Secretary, Herbert Stancer was announced and the possibility of the D.A. being split was first discussed.

* Correction.  Hamish Smith first rode with West Surreys in 1953 but moved away from the area for a time before making a comeback in 1962.
