Woking's request to the local Road Safety Committee was declined and the matter was referred to H.Q. who later indicated that they were unwilling to interfere in local government matters regarding road safety so Mr. Benstead was asked to raise the matter with the full council. (At that time the Minister of Transport was the M.P. for Woking.) In May the BCTC and Tourist Trial organised jointly with the South West London D.A. was won by Woking Section member Colin Bendall of Egham and it was agreed that sprints and tubulars be permitted in Test Rides.
Woking's Social Section became the 'Wayfarers' with 'Cab' Stanley the chief organiser and George Alesbury recalls getting cryptic notes from 'Cab' such as "Be at Pains Hill, Cobham, 9.30 Sunday" and such was 'Cab's' authority that George felt obliged to obey! It was about this time that George and Don Field became trainers with Walton and Weybridge Road Safety Committee.
