Early in the year Mr. Carmichael Riddell gave his lecture "We went to Taffy's House" at Kingston Public Library when there was an audience of about 80. The charge for hiring a committee room at the Halfway House, Walton, was raised to 7/6d (37½p). This was considered too high and meetings were switched to The Old House at Home at Hersham. However, they started to charge 10/0d (50p) per meeting so there was another change, this time to the Ashley Arms at Walton for half that fee. Kingston paid a visit to Sadlers Wells theatre and had a hostelling week-end at Hannington while Woking experienced its first Youth Hostel week-end since the war at Blackboys. A BCTC heat organised jointly with the South-West London D.A. only attracted seven entries from the West Surreys and only eight entered for a map-reading event in the Crondall area.
Stan Baron suggested it was time for a change in the Presidency. He offered £5 as prize money and this was later used to purchase a photograph album for each section. Peter Stanley again won the Benstead Cup, Gerald Edwards the Attendance Cup and Hazel West the Ladies Cup. Gordon Haller pressed for longer standard rides and Kingston Section had a working party at Tanners Hatch youth hostel during a December week-end. They also had over 300 present at a combined Kingston club' dance at which Eileen Sheridan was present.
