"Sixty Years On" - 1951

In January the Southern Section was not doing very well.  Their runs secretary was away for 6-8 weeks and runs did not start again until April.  In that month Woking had 36 on an Invitation Ride and, for the D.A. Birthday run on the 22nd, there were 42 to tea at Shamley Green.  The "50" had 28 entries and the "l00" route included Maidenhead, Harwell and finished at Sunninghill.  All riders were successful including a youngster - R. Day - who, although not officially entered, was awarded a certificate.  By June it was evident that the outlook for the Southern Section was unsatisfactory and it was feared that it may have to be wound up.  Don Field offered to explore the possibility of a section in the Farnham/Camberley area.  A display of old and new cycles was put on at the Odeon Cinema in connection with local riders' departure to the Festival of Cycling in Birmingham and, by August, all books, papers and bar badges had been returned by Southern Section which had collapsed for lack of a leader.

After a lapse of some years in which he indulged in motor-cycling trial riding, "Cab" Stanley re-appeared and Keith Beaumont joined the fold.
