Because food rationing was still in force, caterers were not permitted to charge more than 2/3d (11p) per head, consequently it was a cold meal (meat pie, salad and sweet).
In June, D.A. representatives attended a meeting at C.T.C. headquarters regarding the proposed South Orbital Road - the fore-runner of the M25. To-day, 31 years later, it is still not built!
The 9th July was quite an occasion. Arrangements had been made for the C.T.C. Council to hold one of its regular meetings in the Guildhall at Guildford but, owing to the Quarter Sessions being held there, it took place further up the High Street in London House.
At 11 am the Deputy Mayor welcomed the Council and after the meeting, at which the D.A. Secretary, the Hon. Secretaries of Woking and Kingston Sections and those of the three other Surrey D.A.'s were present, Council Chairman, Bill Oakley, presented a Certificate of Merit to Bill Inder. All this was followed by a luncheon for 43 at Nuthalls Restaurant, the cost being met by voluntary contributions.
Kingston were staging runs with an object; Bekonscot Model Village, Lullingstone Castle, Whipsnade Zoo, Worthing, Surrey Ramble, Stonehenge and a night ride, while Woking had 15 on a night ride to Eastbourne and two boating runs.
The end of the Club's financial year was altered from 30 November to 30 September and, for the first time, no grant from headquarters was applied for and sections were asked to become self-supporting for postal expenses.
A Mr. Clark of Capel was keen to start a Cranleigh Section and he was asked whether he would like to submit a runs list for the 'Gazette'. Twenty-three entered for the Staines/Wantage "100" in September, all but three being successful. About this time there were 592 Club members in the D.A. area and Woking's attendances were 50% up on 1948 figures. Because of the altered date of the Club's financial year it was decided to hold the next A.G.M. in November instead of the following January consequently the 21st A.G.M. was held at Shalford on 16 January and the 22nd took place at the same venue on 20 November and the latter was preceded by a special meeting which approved the formation of the "Southern Section" based at Cranleigh. At year end, Woking had 29 on the Christmas morning ride to Ripley and Kingston opened a new club room at Molesey.
