"Sixty Years On" - 1947

There was bad weather in the first few months of 1947 and runs attendances in both sections were affected.  Even so, there were over 60 at a Woking dinner though no one could be found to act as runs secretary so runs were arranged and teas booked by the general secretary.  Woking had an "old-timers" ride in May when 14 turned out and another in October with nine supporting.

Fifteen from the D.A. were present at Polesden Lacey when 100 C.T.C. members were the guests of the National Trust.  Two D.A. representatives took roles in the making of a road safety film and a visit was paid to the film makers premises in November to see the finished product.  Mr. E. J. Steel, past D.A. President, was one of those prominently featured.

In June, Archie Benstead started 16 riders on the D.A.'s "50" from Pains Hill, Cobham and, as they moved off, Archie - in a burst of over-enthusiasm - shouted "A pound to the first one back", so the rules governing amateur status had to be gently pointed out to him.

The D.A. committee was meeting at a variety of places at that time including the Rio Cafe, Ripley, the Lounge Cafe, Seale, the Halfway House, Walton, the French Horn, Alton and the Old House at Home, Hersham.
