"Sixty Years On" - 1942

Mr. A. W. Trevarthen died in January 1942, on the eve of the D.A. A.G.M. at Sunnybank on Netley Heath.  Twentyfour were present and Les Norman was elected to the D.A. and Woking Section committee;  he also became Woking's Hon. Secretary and Treasurer in place of Don Field who resigned on going into the R.A.F.

By mid-summer, both sections reported better runs attendances, Kingston having acquired several lady members and running two groups - Short distance and Hardriders.  Later that year the sad news was received of Terry Collins, one time popular Woking Runs Secretary, who died in a North African hospital after contracting a rare blood disease while serving with the Royal Navy.  The Comforts Fund continued to be well supported but the scheme for sending parcels had to be discontinued owing to food rationing restrictions.  Instead, Postal Orders to the value of 5/0d (25p) were sent to serving members, up to four being sent each month.

Owing to catering difficulties, Woking's Annual Dinner could not be held and the Christmas morning run was switched to Pinnocks at Ripley, breaking a long connection with Godalming.
