Exodus
Stan Baron remained as a popular and active President or Vice-President
right through until 1954 and, although other officers remained, representation
on the D.A. committee was changed to Woking 4; Kingston 3.
A supper and party at Hazeldene early in 1940 attracted 32 and there were
24 at the A.G.M. at Ripley but, by April, when Don Field became Chairman
of the D.A. committee, runs attendances were down and club nights averaged
only 7 and although there were things like scavenger hunts and boating
runs, there was no Hardriders test. Kingston reported that camping
was restricted because of black-out regulations and all but two of their
committee were in the Forces and, by July, Woking had lost 70% of its active
members. Woking Section supper and prize giving at The Albion Hotel,
Woking, had near peace-time numbers but Benstead Cup events were reduced
from 8 to 5, the overall winner being Don Field with Tom Keeble and Bernard
Reeves in 2nd and 3rd places. The Ladies Attendance Brooch was won
by May Garrett.
