West Surrey D.A., C.T.C. at Watersfield near Pulborough after tea, 10 May 1936 |
Easter was strenuous, nights being spent at Peterborough, Kings Lynn, Sheringham and Attleborough. Over 400 miles were covered; 140 on the last day. A professional photographer in the person of D. Box, attended a number of runs and added some superb records for the D.A. album.
Don Field appeared and, in later years, he liked to recall how, on his first run, he rode all day and no one spoke to him until tea time when the runs secretary demanded "One and three please" (6p). Whether true or a slight exaggeration it does reflect what northerners regard as the unsocialability of southerners in general.
An Invitation Ride to Frensham Ponds was a great success, over 50 being out for tea at The Bull, Bentley. The "100" was in October and was started by Mr. Steel from Clandon cross roads.
The A.G.M. was at Hazeldene, Christmas morning was to Godalming and Bagshot Heath was the scene of a rough stuff ride on Boxing Day.
