In 1924 Norman Pearce and Bill Inder set off for a tour of Devon and Cornwall
but, going down Honiton Hill, Norman hit an old man who turned out to be
deaf. Bill had arrived down at Honiton, waited, and half an hour
later, learned that Norman had been taken to a doctor. After treatment
for a broken collar bone, Norman had to abandon the tour and travelled
home by train. En route he found that his money for food was in a
pocket he could not reach because his arm was strapped up and he had to
get a stranger to assist, meanwhile, Bill carried on alone.
