Slide Show 7pm on Saturday 10 March at Horsell Scout Hut (next to "Red Lion", High St). "Hostelling Hotch-potch" by Pete Smith is the main attraction, with full supporting programme from DA members.
A Barn Dance can't be square when the programme includes the Circassian Circle! Come and show the members of the Charlotteville CC (joint organisers with us) that we know how to make Virginia Reel! Or how about the Gay Gordons? Full instruction given on the night, so having two left feet is no excuse - remember, we've seen your bikes! Harold's tandem is the only machine in the DA with two LH pedals on the same crankset. 8pm on Friday 23 March at Waterside Centre, Stoughton Road, Guildford. Tickets 75p (50p under 14) including refreshments.
Benstead Cup An information sheet on this year's competition is in preparation and will be available for handing out soon.
22 April Further details of the 50-mile standard ride: please turn up at Mayford Green ten minutes before the following start times:- 8.30am for 5 hours, 8.45 for 4½h, 9.00 for 4h, 9.15 for 3½h. (This is merely to make the event run more smoothly: you do not commit yourself to a 4-hour ride, say, by starting at 9.) Lunch is at Holmbury St. Mary as usual. Also, George Alesbury is running the veterans' '50' again this year: see him for details. The climax of the day is the special Birthday Tea at Chiddingfold ("Winterton Arms"), but don't forget that you must book in advance with Russ.
Emma Harper (John's daughter) has brought further fame to W.Surrey by winning the Renold Trophy. The trophy is awarded annually to "the member of a cycling holiday who contributes most to the spirit of cycle touring". Emma will be presented with her award at the DA Birthday Tea on 22 April.
The Home Counties DAs Rally (5-7 May) is based on the successful formula of last year's Godalming Rally. The campsite at Aylesbury RFC's ground at Weston Turville will be available from the Friday evening. There will be a barn dance on the Saturday evening and a slide show on the Sunday. If you want to join the DA party, get a booking form from Harold Coleman.
To warm up for the Stonehenge ride, I will be cycling to Meriden & back on Sunday 20 May to attend the annual cyclists' memorial service, and invite other DA members to accompany me. The round trip from Mytchett is about 200 miles. Are you a "bicenturion"? Let me know if you want to be.

Stuart Jackson's tricycle took off whilst its owner was enjoying tea in Frogmore Village Hall after the recent Border CA reliability ride. It apparently made a perfect 3-point landing on the canopy over the front door. Stuart, being of an incredulous nature, believes that it was helped in its ascent and has been pointing an accusing finger at certain people in high places, who have been fighting hard to keep straight faces.
