| *** | London & Home Counties DA's Godalming Rally 29,30
April, 1 May This event will be a lot of fun, including runs
on all three days, a barn dance on Saturday evening, and a slide show on
Sunday evening. Full details are in a leaflet available from Harold
Coleman. Some help will be needed on the Saturday morning to receive
arrivals and direct them to pitches on the camping ground, etc..
Our major contribution, however, will be leading the runs, which are as
follows:- (Outline only. All start & end at Rally ground,
N of God'g)
Saturday afternoon A: Catteshall - Thorncombe Street - Run Common - Cranleigh - Loxhill - Winkworth Arboretum - Bramley (19 Miles) B: Unsted - Bramley - Winkworth Arboretum - Loxhill - Dunsfold - Shillinglee - Gospel Green - Killinghurst - Hambledon (25-30 miles) Sunday (9am - 5pm) C: Hydestile - Killinghurst - Lickfold - Selham - Barlavington - Bignor - Petworth (lunch) - Pulborough - Pallingham Quay - Wisborough Green - Plaistow - Hascombe (58 miles) D: Puttenham - Farnham - Crookham - Dipley - Newnham - Odiham (lunch) - Lower Froyle - Blacknest - Arford - Bramshott - Hammer Bottom - Haslemere - Witley Station (56 miles) E: Guildford - Whitmoor Common - Knaphill - Penny Pot - Valley End - Windsor Great Park (lunch) - Englefield Green - Knowle Hill - Chobham - Mayford - Jacobswell - Guildford (41 miles) Monday morning F: Hurtmore - Peper Harow - Elstead - Tilford - Frensham Ponds - Devils Jumps - Elstead - Shackleford - Eashing (24) G: Shalford Mill - Shamley Green - Farley Heath & Green - Winterfold - Run Common - Thorncombe Street - Munstead (20 miles) The runs should be the most memorable part of the rally, and it is up to all of us to make them so. Several leaders will be needed for each, as the riders will be split into manageable groups, so please volunteer to lead at least one, even if you have never led a run before. Do not worry about getting lost: come on our rehearsal runs listed overleaf. Our area is a beautiful one: now is our chance to show it off to our guests. |

| *** | 50-mile Standard Ride & 50th Anniversay Tea 23 April The course is the same as last year's. Those wishing to qualify in 3½ or 4 hours should be at Mayford at 8.45 to start at 9am sharp. However, in this the DA's 50th year, certificates will be awarded to all who complete the course. A marshall will be at Mayford to start at 8.30 those who wish to allow themselves plenty of time. Booking is required for the 50th Birthday tea. It is thought that the cost will be 60p: this should be paid in advance to Russ. | |
| *** | Stonehenge & back is the exciting prospect for 4 June. We are grateful to Ray Craig for organising this reliability ride to add to the year's celebrations. There is a choice of two routes, 200 or 250 km in 13 hours. Details from Ray. Don't miss it! | |
| *** | Round Britain Relay Ride 27 May - 31 May Our DA is privileged to ride the first leg (Godalming - S. Harting) of this notable event. Will those wishing to ride please give their names to me. | |
| *** | The Benstead Cup is awarded each year to the DA's best all-rounder. The competition is designed to give, as far as possible, everyone an equal chance, be he wayfarer or hard-rider. It is difficult to see how the advantage of a strong pair of legs could be eliminated from the hill-climb or tourist trial, but that leaves six events in which anyone can do well: 50- & 100-mile standard rides, rough-stuff, speed-judging, free-wheeling, and attendance. The formula for success is to enter every event! Further details later. § | |
| *** | The Map Library is now held by Robert Pidgeon, 36 Saffron Platt, Guildford (Worpleson 3739). Bart's maps covering the country, and books (inc. Lightwood's "Romance of the CTC" (1928)) may be borrowed for a few pence a week. | |
| *** | Mudguards The use of full-length mudguards is expected on club runs. Anyone not so equipped is asked to ride at the back of the group, for the sake of his club-mates. |
