Woking Concert Society

Promoting concerts by professional musicians --- All concerts open to the public

The society was founded in 1923 as Woking Music Club by Mrs Margaret Walker, a prominent local figure on the music scene.  It is now (under a new name) in its 89th season.

Famous performers for the society in the past include Dame Myra Hess, Kathleen Ferrier, Artur Rubinstein, Gerald Moore, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Dame Janet Baker, Julian Bream, Radu Lupu and the Amadeus String Quartet.  More recently we have enjoyed performances by brilliant young musicians including violinist Chloe Hanslip, cellist Alice Neary, flautist Emily Beynon, the Katona guitar duo, the Carducci String Quartet and soprano Elizabeth Watts, winner of the lieder section of the Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

A committee of dedicated local people run the society with care and enthusiasm.  All concerts are open to the public, but you save money by subscribing in advance for three or more concerts.  The more you subscribe for, the less each concert costs.  By subscribing for concerts you automatically become a member of the society;  new members are always welcome.  The concerts take place in a pleasant venue, the Kemp Room of the H. G. Wells Conference and Events Centre, situated near a good, well lit car park, and only 5 minutes' walk from Woking Station.  For further details please contact a member of the committee.  Please also support our advertisers, some of whom provide extra discounts.

A warm welcome awaits members and visitors from our sister societies in the area, and I look forward to meeting you at the concerts and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Valia Hedley - Chairman
