Of the four people close to the camera and facing it, second from
the left is 'Wayfarer' and next is 'Petronella'.
'Wayfarer' was the pen name of W. M. Robinson, a regular contributor
to 'Cycling'. He kindled enthusiasm amongst cyclists for adventures
in the mountains, such as crossing the Berwyns via rough tracks.
The route from Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog via Nant Rhyd Wilym to Cynwyd
or Llandrillo is known amongst cyclists as the 'Wayfarer Pass', and there
is a memorial to him at the top.
'Petronella' was the pen name of Mrs. E. Parkes, who had a regular
column, 'Wheelwisdom for Women', in the 'C.T.C. Gazette' during the 1930s.
She was the wife of a well-known Midlands cycle manufacturer, a C.T.C.
Councillor and a vice-president of Shropshire D.A.
