The elder ‘statesman’ of the Jeggo clan, 77 year old Fred Jeggo, was joined at Falls Creek by four generations of his family.  Darwin-based son Rob, and his wife and their two children Stacey and Mitchell, heard about the family gathering at Falls and decided to join in.  The size of the expedition grew from a small booking at the Falls Creek to such a large number of the Jeggo family that they had to be accommodated in the hotel and at Halley’s Lodge. The last time the whole ‘crew’ were in the same place was when Rob’s son Simon got married ten years ago.

Fred, who lives in Perth, first came to Falls in 1993 when he’d heard they offered free lift passes for pensioners. Since his first visit to Falls Creek, which he says is the closest ski-in/ski-out resort to Perth, he’s been back half a dozen times.  However, this is the first time he has been joined by such a large number of his own family, but apparently not the last;  the entire group is rebooking to return to Falls.

Eight year old Mitchell, the youngest family member related to Fred Jeggo, constitutes the fourth generation of a family which they say has been traced back to some sort of rogue with Cornish descent.

There has been, understandably, lots of catching up, lots of falling in the snow and lots of fun. But one person is still the person to follow down the mountain, that’s Fred.  “He’s the best skier of all of us,” says his son Ray.  “He used to ski in Austria but now he comes to Falls Creek because he likes the convenience of staying in a village surrounded by snow.  He says it’s far nicer, much more convenient, and the whole family intend to come back again in two years time.”
