| Aromatherapy uses pure natural
essential oils that are extracted from trees, grasses and flowers. Each
one is unique and has its own therapeutic properties. Many essential
oils possess significant anti-microbial properties, which have been
demonstrated by clinical trials & studies.
Aromatic oils have been used for thousands of years. Research has started to explain how and why these traditional remedies have had such positive effects. Our sense of smell has been found to be linked directly to the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls our moods, emotions, memory and learning. Each essential oil contains up to one hundred different chemical components (including esters, ketones, aldehydes and terpenes) which can have an a effect on the whole person. For example, research has shown that the smell of some types of lavender increases alpha waves in the back of the head, producing relaxation. The smell of jasmine can increase beta waves in the front of the head, producing sensations of being more alert. Oils are selected and blended to suit individual needs, then added to a carrier oil for use in massage. These are rapidly absorbed through the skin and metabolized by the body. Personal blends can also be created for use at home, in baths, through inhalations or in creams for individual requirements such as enhancing sleep. A consultation is always carried out before treatment. Please allow up to two hours for a full session, or one hour for part (such as back neck and shoulders). Treatment is enhanced if you can rest for a while afterwards and drink plenty of water to help the body detox.
