Sunday 14th August. World Championships. Glasgow Green.

Both of the Williamwood Pipe bands headed to Glasgow Green on Saturday to contest the World Pipe band championships. This has been an extremely successful competition for the band in recent years, winning the grade 4B and grade 4A contests in consecutive years! The weather on the day turned out to be excellent following a week of horrendous conditions!

Our grade 4 band was to play first, drawn to play at 10.24am in their qualifying section and although slightly nervous had a good performance. They were later to find that they unfortunately did not manage to qualify for the twelve band final.

The grade 3B competition required no qualifier and we were drawn to play at 2.26pm. again the contest was march Strathspey and Reel contest, and after a good performance last week at Bridge of Allan confidence was high. The band was extremely pleased with their performance and felt that we may be able to take away a prize.

The marchpast confirmed what we had hoped for as we were awarded sixth place, and were the highest placed Scottish band in the grade. Again Seven Towers Pipe Band won the contest!

The grade 1 contest was won by the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, under the leadership of Pipe Major Richard Parkes. Our congratulations go to all the prize winners on the day.

Finally Williamwood Pipe Band would like to thank all of our friends, family, and supporters who gave us an incredible backing throughout the day!
