Saturday
22nd May. Scottish Championships, Dumbarton.
Williamwood
Pipe Band went to Dumbarton for the first major championship
of the season full of optimism following good performances
at Gourock. It was an early start for the bands as the Grade
4B band was drawn to play at 10.14am. We arrived at the park
just after 8 o’ clock and the grade four band began
their preparation. Come quarter past ten, the band was ready
to go with a good sound and a few good runs at the set. The
band put in an excellent performance in the circle, and were
pleased with the way they played. It was up to the judges
now!
The grade
3B band were drawn to play at 11.46am. This gave them plenty
of time to prepare for the contest. Although hampered by a
slightly dodgy start, into the circle the performance soon
settled and was also fairly pleasing.
For the
rest of the day the members and supporters made good use of
the unusually hot weather, either listening to some of the
other bands of by enjoying a few refreshments!
The marchpast
proved to be slightly disappointing due to a failure in PA
system, however this did not deter too much from the award
of third place to Williamwood in grade three. Although the
grade four band was slightly disappointed with their result,
further scrutiny of the judges sheets suggests that there
is still plenty to be positive about!
