Saturday 21st August, Melrose Highland Games.
Saturday saw both of the Williamwood bands head to the Borders for a contest at Melrose in preparation for the Cowal Highland gathering. The Grade four band was to play at 11.20am. A slightly later arrival than planned meant that the band had a slightly rushed preparation. They did however manage to perform very well in a large grade four contest. The grade three bands preparation was also slightly hindered as Pipe Major Andy Melvin was stung in his mouth by a wasp! However Andy recovered in time to lead the band on. Again the performance was quite positive and we felt we were capable of being on the prize list. This was to be proven correct as the grade 3 band was placed third, the highest of the grade 3B bands. The 3A band Coalburn IOR won the grade. The grade four band despite a positive performance failed to make the prizelist.
