Saturday 31st July. European Championships. Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
Williamwood Pipe Band headed for Lisburn, Northern Ireland after a couple of promising results at Helensburgh and Balloch. It was just the grade 3 band who was to be competing at this championship! We made the trip from Troon to Larne on the Friday evening and arrived in Belfast at about midnight! We were drawn to play at 15.53 but took advantage of the great weather by having a practice in the morning!
Preperations for the contest went well and we were fairly confident it when the time came to enter the competition circle. We were fairly pleased with our performance and felt it was a massive improvement to our March, Strathspey and reel since the Brittish Championships at Turriff!
The results however were to prove a little disappointing as we were placed outside the prizelist. Congratulations go out to the Seven Towers Pipe Band from Ballymena who won grade 3B with first places from all four judges! The dissapointment of not gaining a prize did not stop us all from enjoying a great night in Belfast before returning home on Sunday afternoon.
