Chris found his extraordinary talent for motorbike jumping quite by accident. One day, whilst out scrambling on some waste ground, he hit a canal bank at high speed, launching him into the air. He flew for a distance of approximately 40 feet, landing on the other side of the canal. Chris found this a truly exhilarating experience, and knew that this was the beginning to a new and exciting life.

Chris became a dad on 28th July 1977 when his son Shane was born.

Chris' first public appearance was in 1977, performing for the Queen's cousin Henrietta Rose, at the Clevelly Art Festival in Devon. This lead to Chris performing small jumps at numerous shows around the country.

In 1981 Chris embarked on his first big jump, when he achieved his first world obstacle record over 28 cars. This jump attracted a large crowd of approximately 30,000 people.

Following this jump, Chris was offered a 3 month tour of New Zealand. He left Britain on 19th November 1981. It was during this tour that Chris met the love of his life, Donna.

Chris and Donna became constant companions, and she returned to Britain with him in March 1982. They were married one year later on 8th August 1983. Chris and Donna were to spend their honeymoon at the venue for Chris' next exploit, his world record attempt over 18 double deck buses. Chris describes this as one of the best moments of his life, he says, "To succeed in obtaining the world record was exhilarating and exciting, but to see the look of pride on my wife's face was the greatest achievement of all."

On 16th November 1988, Chris and Donna became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, whom they named Natalie. Three years later, on 26th July 1991, they once again became the proud parents of another beautiful daughter, whom they name Natasha.

In July 1992, Chris set off for Scotland where Chris had been booked to do a 8 show tour.

On the 19th of July Chris had just completed a show and returned to his caravan to relax. Donna decided to go to do some shopping with some friends at a nearby petrol station/supermarket. It was Chris' birthday the following day and she wanted to buy him a card. Unknown to them both, tragedy was about to happen.

On Donna's return to the show ground, she was struck down by a Road Safety Officer. He had been at the show ground displaying a Road Safety Campaign. After he had finished he closed up the display trailer but forgot to lock the canopy door. Whilst he was driving, the door started to rise acting like a wing. It struck Donna in her side, between her ribs and pelvis, causing massive internal injuries. Donna was in a critical condition but she courageously fought hard for her life. She had 3 major operations and was given over 80 pints of blood. Unfortunately Donna lost her fight, and on the morning of the 21st July she slipped away.

After Donna's death, Chris had to give up his career to raise his three children. But in 1995 he decided to resume his career, and on 13th August 1995 he attempted a new world record over 21 juggernauts. He was unsuccessful at this attempt, and had a close shave with death, but despite the odds being against him he walked away from the jump totally unscathed. Chris was wearing Donna's wedding ring on a chain around his neck during the jump, and he is convinced that she was watching over him that day and keeping him safe.

Chris was adamant that he wanted to make this attempt again, and on 17th August 1997 he once again attempted the world record. This time he succeeded in achieving a new world obstacle record.

Chris dedicates his career to his wife, whom he says worked unfalteringly, and even though she spent her married life worrying about Chris performing such death defying stunts, she never once complained. He says, "She was always full of support and encouragement for me, and I felt that her love kept me safe. Donna was my best friend and even in death I feel that she truly is the wind beneath my wings."
