Chris Bromham's Past Achievements

25TH MAY 1981 - JUMP OVER 28 CARS

This was Chris' first long distance jump on which he achieved a distance of 170 feet. This jump was seen both nationally and internationally.
Chris used a Suzuki RM400N for this jump. The bike was a standard machine with Fox Shocks on the rear. The reported speed of the bike on take off was 97 miles per hour.

The venue for this jump was Swansea Airport, Swansea, South Wales, Great Britain.

29TH AUGUST 1983 - JUMP OVER 18 DOUBLE DECK BUSES

Norman Park, Bromley, Kent, London, England.

Chris achieved 2 world records with one jump. A new distance record to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records for 208 feet, and a new obstacle record, beating the previous record of 14 double deck buses to a staggering 18 double deck buses.
At the midway flight path, Chris' height was an amazing 30 feet. He was reported to have taken off at just under 100 miles per hour.

The bike used was a standard KTM500cc motorcross.

This jump is particularly poignant to Chris as he was newly wed and he and his wife Donna spent their honeymoon at the venue.

31ST AUGUST 1986 - JUMP OVER 20 JUGGERNAUTS

This remarkable jump gained Chris his second entry into the Guinness Book of Records, under Ramp Jumping, for the incredible distance of 241 feet. He also achieved another world obstacle record of 20 juggernauts.

The bike used for this exploit was a standard Yamaha YZ490.

The venue for the jump was the Royal Victoria Docks, London, England.

13TH AUGUST 1995 - UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT OVER 21 JUGGERNAUTS

This was to be Chris' comeback after 3 years off, due to the tragic death of his wife. On attempting the jump, due to a defective rear shock absorber the bike compressed too far, locking the back wheel to the rear mudguard acting as a brake on lift off, throwing Chris backwards. He landed on the safety ramp above the 19th juggernaut, coming down in a wheelie position. The bike snatched the handlebars out of his hands, but due to his quick reaction Chris managed to regain control of the handlebars before the bike, with Chris still on it, slipped off the side of the landing ramp at a height of 10 feet. Remarkably Chris got away with this jump totally unscathed.

17TH AUGUST 1997 - REATTEMPT JUMP OVER 21 JUGGERNAUTS

After his unsuccessful attempt at this in 1995, Chris was adamant that he wanted to succeed and attempted it once more, with the hope that he would achieve both a new distance world record and a new obstacle world record. Chris was successful in obtaining a new obstacle record, but sadly he did not gain a new distance record. Chris' explanation for this is that "In the history of motorcycle jumping, we have now reached the limits that todays machines can achieve." Although he did not achieve a new distance record, Chris is very proud of the fact that in the history of motorcycle jumping he is the only jumper to gain 2 entries into the Guinness Book of Records.

This spectacular jump was shown live to America via satellite on Pay For View.

For the first time in Chris' career he was sponsored by Honda for a new CR500.
