PHASE 2 IN PROGRESS............

Well it's been quite a while since the last update - I've been trying to earn some more money to fund this expensive hobby of mine.....

For the last few months I have been waiting on a couple of 'key' bits and gradually collecting/restoring other parts. Well the good news is that the new  chassis is now complete (picture to follow) and I'm going to be 'booking it in' for the rather major surgery that will be required to install it!

Other bits have been collected. Today I went to Ricketts racing to pick up the new dry sump tank. It's identical to the tank from Martin's car and is a work of art!

The strange 'cut out' fits around the front lower wishbone mounting (if you have an S1 you will know what I mean - not sure if S2s are the same).

This shows the tank slotted into the car - fit's like a glove!

I also got a new fuel collector tank made (the base of the original was corroded beyond repair).

New and old tanks

I've also been beavering away on the suspension parts - the wishbones look fantastic nickel plated....but the originals were painted silver so I've stuck to that (I have also yet to find a decent plater near me, and oh yes, it's a tad cheaper!)

This is the front top wishbone - the bushes have been pressed out (they are the same size as the road going Europa).

These are very similar to the road going Europa however they are not a single pressing - they are fabricated from several parts. Like pretty much all parts they are stamped with a Lotus Components part number.

Rear bottom wishbone.

Front hub assembly - the upright is as S1 but is machined to accept a far thicker stub axle. The hub is machined from a single lump of metal (I'm glad I don't need new ones!) The pegs drive the knock off magnesium wheels.

Rear outer drive shaft - again, painted silver as original.

And a final treat (for me and for you) - this is Martin's car ready to be assembled...

It's going to be good! I also saw the 2 litre BDG blocked twin cam ready to go in it - it's going to be fast too!
