The annual BSPA conference at the end of November 2007 
agreed to a reduction in the team points limit from 42.5 to 38.85. This led to Pirates reluctantly releasing Jason Crump due to his average being more than a point higher than Bjarne Pedersen. Fortunately for the Elite League, Crump was snapped up by Belle Vue and other riders initially under threat (such as Scott Nicholls) mostly managed to secure a team place.

Bjarne Pedersen was injured early season and replaced by Krzysztof Kasprzak for one month.

Zibi Suchecki was injured and dropped along with out-of-form Karol Zabik, being replaced by Magnus Zetterstrom and Daniel Davidsson
