Unfortunately 1996 will be remembered as a year littered with injuries. After just a lap of his first race, Steve Schofield suffered a leg injury. Just days later, Poole lost new boy Magnus Zetterstrom with a serious back injury, and then both Jason Bunyan and Marcus Andersson.
Of the new riders, Zetterstrom had looked sharpest, Andersson and Bunyan struggled and Hvamstad lacked decent equipment from the moment his best bike blew in the first meeting.
