After the previous season's mediocre performance in the top flight, Poole improved to a respectable third place in 1992. Craig Boyce returned to his 'home' track and with Marvyn Cox provided a potent duo. Gary Allan and Alun Rossiter had moved to Kings Lynn (though 'Rosco' returned later in the season). Early season failures by Andy Phillips and Pole Slawomir Drabik hampered progress but their replacements Jorgen Johansson and Alastair Stevens at the beginning of June improved the team's balance.
Poole made the BSPA Cup Final and took a 10-point lead to Smallmead late in the season. However they were unable to prevent a rampant Reading from overturning the lead and lifting the trophy, and then on the same night lift the Knockout Cup in the second meeting of a double-header, this time against Bradford.
