1990
Poole won the National League title for the second successive year , and won the Knockout Cup against Middlesbrough. This despite the loss of Leigh Adams to Swindon during the close season. Gary Chessell and Rod Colquhoun were two of the new faces, however the other newcomer who made the biggest impact. He was Tom Knudsen and his early season form was promising. However he was injured in a crash at Berwick in July which ruled him out for the season. The impact was that Poole rode with 'heat leader' rider replacement for Tom for the rest of the season. Despite immense pressure on the rest of the team, especially the heat leaders, a six-man team was to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
Another extraordinary event also occured mid-season when it was announced that the track was to be re-positioned to accomodate a larger football pitch. Out went the greyhounds and in just a week, the new track and safety fence was built.
The most incredible meeting occured at Berwick in July when, by heat 5 both Knudsen and Alun Rossiter were in hospital and the five remaining pirates managed to salvage a close 50-44 defeat and a 100-90 aggregate victory in the Knockout Cup.
