1989
Poole won a league title for the first time in twenty years. They finished five points clear at the top of the National League, and also finished runners-up in the Knockout Cup. Leigh Adams was the rookie from Australia who turned around the team's fortunes. It was to be his only season at Poole as he swiftly moved up to the First Division in 1990.
A memorable race was during a meeting against Peterborough when, in misty and very wet conditions, Alun Rossiter won the race of his life when after trailing last, managed to pass both Peterborough riders on the same bend.
The World Team Final was marred by a serious injury to former World Number 1 Eric Gundersen. His three opponents in the opening heat all needed treatment but it was Gundersen who was on a life support machine for nearly a month.
