1985

All change at Poole. Weymouth Wildcats lost their home and with the future at Poole looking bleak, the entire promotion moved along the coast and Poole Wildcats were born. A new experience for the Poole faithful with a team competing in the National League. After many seasons in the British League, with little success, it was hoped a new start would revive interest in Poole and bring success.

The team was spearheaded by former Pirate Martin Yeates who, after only moderate success in the British League with Poole had become a major force in the National League. Most of the team had performed for Weymouth the previous year, the exceptions being Pirates riders Kevin Smith and Stan Bear.

The season so nearly brought the Championship to Poole, who eventually finished second.
