Matt joined Stafford at the end of December 2005, and marked his debut against Worcester City with a late equaliser. Early in his career, he had spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Bromwich Albion, and Halesowen Town before joining Kidderminster Harriers. Matt moved to Hereford United in 1998 and made 160 appearances in over four years with the Bulls before moving on to Telford United. After the demise of Telford in summer 2004, Matt joined Redditch United, where he remained until his move to Stafford
