Limelight Dance
Limelight Dance
I’m Jayne and I have been running Limelight Dance school since the year 2000. Previously I had danced with Brook Grafton Theatre School of Dance since I was 4 years old. During the last few years before Brook Grafton stopped dancing, I assisted by teaching some classes. Soon after I gained my own teaching qualifications and formed Limelight. We have over 170 dancers at 8 different classes which mean classes are sometimes split into groups. Thanks to Lizzie, Wendy, Karen and Laura who all help with teaching these groups.
Special thanks to Leslie for your support.

Who are we?
Limelight Dance school is a local dancing school, teaching a variety of dance styles and techniques with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Above all, we believe dancing should be fun and enjoyable. But we do encourage you to attain qualifications and take part in our shows.
Established in 2000 (born out of Brook Grafton Theatre School of Dance) we have enjoyed years of hugely successful shows at Grimsby Auditorium and I.D.T.A. examinations.
What dancing do we do?
Freestyle/Disco, Tap, Theatre Craft, Ballet. We also have two dedicated adult tap sessions.
Do we perform shows?
We held dance shows at the Grimsby Auditorium in 2004, 2006 and 2008. These follow a theme but are generally an opportunity to show off all of our dancers (approx 120) on one stage, dancing to all of the different types of dances that we learn, to a variety of music to appeal to all music tastes. Our shows have been for ‘one night only’ and been very enjoyable.
See the events page for details of forthcoming shows and events.

Do we take dance exams?
We have exam sessions alternate years, recently
(2003, 2005 and 2007) we achieved a 100% pass
rate with many obtaining “outstanding” and even
“highly commended”
Our exams are accredited by the I.D.T.A.
What do we wear?
During dance classes, our dancers wear something light and flexible such as a T-shirt and jogging bottoms with trainers. As dancers progress they tend to buy special dance shows (tap, jazz, ballet) which we can obtain direct from suppliers at reduced rates. Many dancers sell shoes, which they have grown out of, so we have a second hand box.
For our shows, our dancers make their own costumes, which reduce the cost. They are provided with materials and patterns for these.
How do I start dancing with Limelight Dance school?
Contact Jayne via email
Include your age, previous dancing experience (if any) and when / where you would like to dance.
How old are our dancers?
We don’t have an age restriction; we have a suitable dance class for all ages. Our youngest are normally 3 years old and our eldest; well it would be rude to ask, but we do have several grannies!
The International Dance Teachers Association is one of the World’s largest governing bodies for dance. All of our classes are set to IDTA syllabuses and our exams are regulated by IDTA examiners.
