For those who like their music nice and straightforward, tied neatly with a bow and packaged on the shelf ready for mass consumption, The Crucible are not for you. Seeming to have headed down the alternative route only to veer rage filled off onto their own path, the Brighton three piece have given prog-metal their own twist, sprinkled with some psychedelic panache for that extra kick.

Zooming into life with a tunnel filled spiral of muffled distortion, ‘Beyond The Driven’ steams into action as chugging guitar riffs pound rhythmically adding a sense of urgency to the track before grunge tinged vocals offer a layered feeling of foreboding and threat. From here on The Crucible endeavour to not only avoid sticking to any musical blueprint but have seemingly ripped it up and set light to it as their blend of pro-metal sparkles with an accessible edge, not only allowing them to stand out from the crowd but perhaps start one all of their own. Unravelling with unexpected turns and twists that can appear wonderfully never ending, ‘Beyond The Driven’ will leave your mind boggling with intrigue as you gasp for more.
