'Beyond Driven' on Metal 4 Life:
It's Muse, isn't it? Ok, I accept that as reviews go, that one is overly pithy but if you go and issue a six minute long, psychedelic prog rock single, with swirling, driving riffs, then you're going to get tarred with the Muse brush. Although at least Dan Dan the Singer Man can actually sing.
Which means that this qualifies as better than Muse. And things get even better when 'To The Lions' comes crashing in, beating you about the head with a monstrous sturm and drang. Fair to say that the three piece (see! Muse!) from Brighton have made a sizeable impact round my way since this single arrived, with lots of clever "ooh, look at my alternative rhythm pattern" moments.
Fortunately for those of us who use the word arty as a definition for handing out beatdowns, they never forget that they are first and foremost a rock band. And, therefore, they rock. 'Beyond Driven' is the winner, as B side 'To The Lions' strays rather too close to My Bloody Valentine for comfort, but with a lead track as good as this one it's worth it. It's actually so good they include it twice.
Definitely, definitely, ones to watch out for.
