New Bassist/ Glasswerk new Music Awards
Hello one and all!!
I haven't introduced myself yet, so I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello and to talk a little bit about the Glasswerk New Music Awards which was a great and successful evening! But more about that in a second!
Just so you know, my name is Jamie and I have been asked to look after the low-end duties of this awesome band. So low are these low-ends that before I could learn the songs, I actually had to have one of my basses modified!
But 2 weeks later, with a Low B and three more of my floppiest, thickest and lowest strings, I began rehearsing with The Crucible and it has been going extremely well! Our plans for world domination have been laid out and pretty soon, the three of us will be ready to whip you beautiful people into a frenzy of riffage, rockage and moshingus maximus! Frankly, I can not wait to get gigging and watch you guys jump around like loons! This is an awesome band and I have no doubt that it has the potential to take us wherever we want to go!
Which leads me nicely onto the Glasswerk New Music Awards 2007!
Hosted at swanky bar 'AKA' in London's West End, The Glasswerk New Music Awards celebrates some of the finest upcoming bands and artists in the UK, from metal to jazz, indie to rock. They do this by giving them a great deal of exposure in the form of the awards and inviting various industry moguls along to watch. But even better than that, is the fact that the winners receive a rather splendid microphone styled award!
The Crucible arrived having been nominated for Best Live Band and Best Three Piece Band. Expectations were high and the drinks prices were even higher as the first few awards were given out…two or three videos were shown for the crowds viewing pleasure and all seemed to be bubbling along nicely. Then the moment came as the nominees for Best Three Piece appeared on the screen. The announcement came from the kind of voice which made you want to punch the person responsible…so as some random who once appeared on Fame Academy bellowed "And the winner is…The Crucible", I found myself quite excited about the award winning part, yet ready to thrown some punches at the fool who calls himself a talent!
By the time I had made my way to the stage, Dan and Paul were already there, award in hand. I held back but Dan insisted I join them up there and I felt honoured to be up there. It was a surreal experience as I half listened to Dan's scathing acceptance speech about Pete Doherty and our collective general disliking for him whilst simultaneously shaking hands for the first time with the man I was there to succeed as bass player.
We walked off to a righteous applause from the capacity crowd, mic shaped award in hand and I have to say, it felt pretty damn good! The Crucible did not win any more awards that night, but we were whisked away for an interview which will be shown on Sky pretty soon, so watch this space!
So that's what we have been up to! You can check out pictures of us and the award on these here pages. The award itself has already been on the tube and to New York City. In January, it will be coming with me to Australia and yes, I will have pics to prove it!
Thanks to everyone for their support so far and keep checking back for more info on gigs and other goings on!
Cheers,
J.
