20-0

It took only 20 seconds for Manchester 1st to score their first and game-winning goal. Nick Crowther set up Manchester’s Finnish star, Antti Turunen, with a shot at the goal and he did not miss. Again, the gap between the 1st and the 2nd team was enormous. Manchester 1st scored no less than 20 times in the game with Andy Roberts and Antti Turunen tallying 5 times each. Skate Attack award for Manchester 1st went to Andy Roberts with the Manchester 2nd Captain, Scott Lloyd grabbing the other one.

With only 20 seconds into the game, Leeds’ Assistant Captain Ben Green tallied the game-winning goal from an assist by the team Captain Mark Fenwick. Skate Attack awards went for Leeds’ Ben Green and for Edinburgh’s Adam Major.

University of Manchester 1st vs University of Edinburgh 1st
2-3

In this very intense match we had to wait until the 9th minute until Edinburgh’s Kate Laing and Andy MacMillan set up a great Powerplay formation and gave Malcolm Junor a shot at an open net. Only two minutes later, Manchester’s Antti Turunen set up Nabeil Nasr for an equalizer. It was a tough battle between two good sides for every single loose puck. In the second period Manchester thought they’d get away after Robbie Griffiths and Nabeil Nasr set up Antti Turunen for the go-ahead goal, but just over a minute later it was none other than Edinburgh’s Malcolm Junor with a great individual effort to equalize the game once again. It looked like the game was going to over-time when the star of the game for Edinburgh, Malcolm Junor, once again flashed his talent by scoring an un-assisted goal with 38 seconds left in the game. Manchester tried to equalize but there simply was not enough time. Skate Attack awards went to Edinburgh’s Malcolm Junor and Manchester’s Antti Turunen.

University of Manchester 2nd vs University of Leeds
0-24

Again, within a minute the game winning goal was scored by Leeds’ Andy Pitt. Leeds tallied 24 goals into the Manchester net. Skate Attack award for Manchester went for Oli Clarke and for Leeds’ 4-time scorer Mark Fenwick.

University of Manchester 1st vs University of Edinburgh 2nd
11-1

Manchester played very disciplined hockey with very few mistakes. Every play was carefully set up and there was no hurry to crash the net. After 5 minutes of play, Nabeil Nasr took the puck into the Edinburgh zone and passed the puck to Robbie Griffiths who made a brilliant pass to Antti Turunen who “finnished” off with an excellent goal. 10 Manchester goals later, at the last minute of the game, Edinburgh got a lucky break and Adam Major passed the puck to Neil Marshall who took away the shut-out glory from the Manchester goalie Tom McDonald. Skate Attack award for Edinburgh went to Neil Marshall and for Manchester, once again, to Antti Turunen.

University of Leeds vs University of Manchester 1st
4-5

Manchester’s Captain, Adam Perona-Wright, took his team for an early lead but Leeds’ Mark Fenwick equalized some 5 minutes later. This neck-to-neck race went on until the dying minutes of the game. At a 4-4 tie with only 3 minutes to go, Mark Fenwick took a roughing penalty for Leeds and Manchester’s powerplay line saw the opportunity to win the game. Nabeil Nasr set up Robbie Griffiths for a power-play tally and a game-winning goal. The Skate Attack awards in this close game went to Leeds’ Chris O’Brien and Manchester’s Robbie Griffiths.

University of Edinburgh 2nd vs University of Manchester 2nd
14-2

After exactly a minute of play, Edinburgh’s Jo Medcalf set up Mark Shannon to score the first goal of the game and there was no going back from then on. Edinburgh scored consistently and kept the Manchester advances at bay. Only twice did Manchester manage to score, both times by David Miller. Final score was 14-2 and Skate Attack awards went to Manchester’s David Miller and for the second time to Jo Medcalf who tallied 4 points in the game.

University of Edinburgh 1st vs University of Leeds
2-2

The first period was grinding hockey with both goalies keeping their nets clean. Both teams played very careful defence and a very few errors by the defence was balanced by superb goaltending in both ends. Both teams played extremely hard as well. Body contact was rough, but mostly fair and even. Leeds’ Ben Green was the first one to score a goal in the middle of the second period and it was 1-0 going into the third period. Third period was a physically rough period for both sides but only once did the emotions spark up to dirty play and resulted in penalties. Edinburgh managed to equalize courtesy of Andy MacMillan from an assist by Andy Bridgewood and went ahead 2-1 with a goal by Keith Devon assisted by Andy MacMillan. It looked like another Edinburgh victory until Andy Pitt equalized for Leeds with only 2 minutes on the clock. Game ended with a 2-2 tie with Skate Attack awards going to Leeds’ Andy Pitt and Edinburgh’s Andy MacMillan.
