I thought I would add this page as I have seen many requests for plans for wine racks on rec.crafts.winemaking and thought maybe my husbands plans might inspire someone.
We are using the under stairs cupboard for our cellar as we have no basement
At the moment, not a lot has happened and there are no real plans drawn up so I can't show them to you but I will get them sorted as soon as I can.
In order to make the cupboard as dark as possible I have used blackboard paint on all the walls and the ceiling. This not only turns it into a deep dark black hole but also has the added advantage (with the addition of a stick of chalk) of being a giant blackboard for anything I may wish to note during the fermentation process such as starting s.g, dates and other measurements that may be required!
***UPDATE*** (27 Aug 2002)
It has been built!!!! It holds approx 120 bottles but there is no reason at all for not making a smaller version...
I've seen some very complicated looking wine racks that would take an absolute age to build for a professional carpenter... this one took my husband no more than 6 hours start to finish all on his own just using a power screwdriver, a drill and a handsaw!! Now that is simple!!
There are unfortunately still no plans that I would be willing to show the world (they're all wonky lines and vague measurements!!) but I promise that I will keep nagging at him until he does some proper ones to show you!
