Nettle Wine

This I started on 18 June 2002 following a recipe I found on Jack Keller's excellent site

The Winemaking Home Page

I used nettle recipe number 2 but admit I added a little more ginger and the 2 lemons I used were huge but other than that I followed the recipe to the letter.

Day 1

I have to admit the smell of the nettles cooking in the pot was revolting... It didn't really inspire me to carry on with this at all. It smelt like old socks but much worse! But being the stubborn type I persisted.......

Day 2

Fermentation is going well...I'm quite surprised as the yeast I used had been hanging around in the cupboard for ages. Bubbling every 2 seconds or so and it smells so much better now...It actually smells like it might possibly be drinkable in the end!!

Day 67

Sorry, haven't updated for a while!! This wine is now sitting in a demijohn waiting to be bottled whenever I need the demijohn back! It was sorbated and then had 4oz sugar added but that was purely for my tastes. You may like it drier or sweeter than I do....
