Celtic Wars

Up

This is our second series of games in the hotel.

The Romans are once more proving to be a tough force to face. The Celts are finding it exceptionally difficult to inflict any damage at all on the legionaries in the open.

Battle 5

This was an exceptionally open battle.

The Romans formed up in an extended line while the Celts formed a more compact force with mobile troops on the right. The Celtic cavalry and chariots attempted to turn the Roman flank but found themselves pinned by the legionaries. The decisive action occurred in the centre - the warbands disintegrated on contact with the legionary line.

Battle 6

This was another open field battle, effectively a rerun of battle 5.

The Celtic warbands lined up against the Roman legionaries in the centre, their chariots on the left while the cavalry went for the right flank in a somewhat optimistic attempt at getting to the Roman camp. The Romans formed up in a tighter formation this time with their cavalry on the right.

The end came rather abruptly when the Consul and his bodyguard were overrun off by the chariots.
