The film of Bob Dylan's April/May
1966 European tour was recorded for ABC tv in the USA but never shown -
largely due to Dylan's own involvement in the editing process that produced
a fast paced cut-up affair that didn't always make a great deal of sense.
There are however some fabulous sequences of Bob and his new backing band
The Hawks on stage, though the electric set was clearly not appreciated
by the folk purists. An audience member remarked on camera after one of
the shows "Pop groups produce better rubbish than that, it was a bloody
disgrace, he wants shooting - he's a traitor." One scene shows Dylan sharing
a car journey with John Lennon (The outtakes now widely in circulation,
but only a very short clip was used in the actual film).
Bob: "I'm Sorry for everything I've done and I hope to remedy it soon."
Film released
8th February 1967 (54 minutes, colour. Not on general release until 1972
and has yet to be issued on video/DVD)

"Reporting '66" was a current

the popularity of The Beatles with that of Jesus Christ. Footage included
an interview backstage in Memphis on 19th August.

ITV (most regions) Wednesday 24th August 1966, most showing it around 11:25-11:50pm
