Up
the Maggies footnote:
After doing so well to claw their way back into the battle
to avoid relegation, Notts threw away their good work by losing two successive
away matches at Luton and Aston Villa leaving the Magpies 8 points adrift
of safety, but they still had two games in hand including this one v Wolves
(which had originally been scheduled for Saturday 28th January - FA Cup
4th round day). What proved to be the lowest Meadow Lane crowd during the
three season stay in the top flight turned up to see Notts brush aside
the bottom placed club who were already mathematically down. John Chiedozie
headed in the opening goal from a corner, then Chiedozie turned provider
after good work on the right resulted in his cross being headed home by
Christie for 2-0. In the 2nd half, with Notts now attacking the kop, Martin
O'Neill got in a cross from the right for yet another headed goal - this
time finished by Hunt. And finally O'Neill on the left sent in a bobbling
ball across the face of the goal which found Christie in the box for an
easy tap in for 4-0.
