Video of the match:- ITV cameras were at the Lane, highlights were shown the following afternoon on "The Big Match". The seven minute section was introduced from the LWT studio's by Brian Moore as follows; Team captions / Muffin the dog in his Notts County coat down by the touchline (he was a yorkshire terrier who had his own season ticket!)  Moore: "Not a lot for him to bark about in the first 10 minutes, we pick it up with Martin Tyler [the commentator], Notts County in white." The action shows - Chiedozie beating off Forest defenders and shooting across the face of the Meadow Lane end goal, it's just wide with Christie close to prodding it home / Another chance for Christie, this just over from Chiedozie's cross from the right / Chiedozie now crossing from the left, again Christie at the end of it heading inches over the bar (Christie very angry with himself) / Walsh for Forest crossing from the left, Hodge unable to reach it in time / Chiedozie skilfully beats two defenders, again crosses for Christie to head over / Second half; Forest attack breaks down, Chiedozie picks it up - through ball for McCulloch who's goal bound prod is turned away point-blank by Van Breukelen / Davenport gets through on goal for Forest but Leonard gets enough of his body behind the shot to prevent it heading for goal / Brilliant skill by Chiedozie, finds McCulloch who finds space to shoot - Van Breukelen beats it away, the rebound is met instantly by McCulloch who's follow up is cleared off the line by Paul Hart, desperate Forest defending as County sustain the attack until the ball is put out for a throw / Back to the studio; Brian Moore to camera; "0-0, quite lively I must say it looked, although I understand over 90 minutes it was a pretty disappointing game, County though - they looked to be the unlucky one's." Up the Maggies footnote:
My first Trentside derby. The attendance was 5,000 less than the previous season, probably because the 1984 Grand National was on TV at the same time (won by Hallo Dandy). Notts were attacking the kop end in the 2nd half, I was up that end in County Road and remember McCulloch's double effort at goal being the closest anybody came to scoring. It could so easily have been a legendary victory (especially given our respective positions in the league table) but instead is probably one of the most forgotten derby's in recent history.
