Up the Maggies footnote:
The third successive Saturday home match and this was the first time since promotion that a Meadow Lane weekend gate figure would dip below 7,000. County had lost their FA Cup Quarter-final with Everton seven days earlier on an afternoon that also saw Notts sink to the bottom of the table, but three days later the Magpies travelled to Norwich and finally recorded their first league win of 1984 thanks to a goal by Martin O'Neill (that match also turned out to be the last time Brian Kilcline played for Notts), the win at Carrow Road reduced the gap to safety to 7 points. Beating Coventry at home frustratingly failed to close the gap any further, but we did still have a game in hand. Defender Ken Armstrong made his Meadow Lane debut after joining on loan from Southampton, teenager Simeon Hodson was also given his chance in the starting 11.
