Up the Maggies footnote:
3rd bottom Notts (without a win in their last 5 league games) v. the team two places above them and six points better off (Leicester had hit a good run of form after collecting only 2 points from their opening 10 games). It was a must win match for Notts that was played in ludicrous weather conditions, one minute there'd be bright sunshine, the next there'd be a blizzard. Notts were in front at half-time but then Gary Lineker struck three times in the 2nd half. Left back Northern Ireland international Nigel Worthington made his last Meadow Lane appearance before leaving for Sheffield Wednesday for £80,000. Leicester's hat-trick hero would go on to collect the golden boot award at the next World Cup whilst his striking partner Alan Smith went on to find fame with Arsenal.
