Up the Maggies footnote:
Despite the best efforts of supporters who raised a considerable amount of money for the "Buy Glen Roeder appeal", promotion chasing Newcastle United stepped in and on Boxing Day Roeder could be seen playing in the black & white stripes of the other Magpies at St James Park. Back at Meadow Lane, this 3-0 home defeat was very much a case of being handed a home fixture with Luton at the wrong time of the season as the Hatters moved up to the dizzy heights of 3rd (Luton would only go on to win 3 more matches all season and finished 16th!) Coming on the back of our 5-0 defeat at Liverpool, this was a pretty miserable Christmas outing for a match kicking off at a very strange time (11:30am) and the result saw Notts drop back into the relegation zone.  Hope was restored only a day later when Notts made a remarkable come back to draw 3-3 at Manchester United thanks to two late goals by Justin Fashanu. Old Trafford was also the scene of a bizarre incident where the referee had a rush of blood to the head and booked seven Notts players all at once for failing to retreat from a free kick.
