Up
the Maggies footnote:
After the last home match with Stoke had ended our seven
match losing sequence, Notts were back to losing ways with a defeat at
West Ham. Glenn Roeder was then signed on loan from QPR and the cultured
defender made his debut for the Magpies at West Brom, but County lost yet
again. Three days later Notts did manage another draw - in the League Cup
at Birmingham - before this home fixture with Norwich. Fortunately there
were four other clubs doing as badly as Notts, although a gap had opened
up with the rest of the league and Norwich were already 9 points clear
of County despite being a lowly 15th. Justin Fashanu netted his 2nd league
goal of the season against his old club, but it was not enough to prevent
Notts from extending their winless league run to 11 matches. On the international
scene, it was confirmed four days later that England had failed to qualify
for Euro '84 as Denmark won the group by winning in Greece (only one team
from each of the 7 groups qualified to make up the final eight. Scotland,
Wales and both Irish nations also failed to make it through to the finals
in France).
