Up
the Maggies footnote:
I remember seeing an advert for this match that Notts
had placed in the local free paper; "Come and see Charlie Nicholas!", Nicholas
being the big summer wonder-boy signing from Celtic having chosen Arsenal
ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United - Apparently he fancied the London
nightlife and that might have explained his disappointing form in the opening
month of the season, he was actually subbed at half time at Meadow Lane.
Following the home defeat to Ipswich, Notts had lost two further league
fixtures on their travels, but we were still 11th and hopeful of getting
back to winning ways as Notts had beaten the Gunners in both of their previous
visits in the last two season's. Sadly the optimism was dashed within a
minute, Graham Rix put Arsenal 1-0 up after 27 seconds! David Hunt then
scored an own goal and Rachid Harkouk had a penalty saved by Pat Jennings
in the 2nd half. The one consolation for me, stood towards the back where
X block now is, was that there was a gorgeous female Arsenal fan in tight
jeans sat over to my left in the seating enclosure and every time Arsenal
scored she stood up and wiggled her bum around for a good 30 seconds (well
I was at a very impressionable age at the time).
