Up
the Maggies footnote:
Notts went into this match on top of the world - 1st
in the top flight league table! But sadly Ipswich brought us all back down
to Earth again and Fashanu managed to score an own goal. Ipswich had rarely
finished outside the top 6 over the previous decade and had won the UEFA
Cup two years earlier in 1981, they were also comfortable winners at Meadow
Lane in both of the previous two seasons (including a shocking 6-0 win
in September 1982 - Notts worst home league defeat since the very first
league campaign of 1888/89).
