SOME YEARS AGO when reviewing early family history, it was suggested that what was known of our antecedents should be recorded, and I seemed to be chosen for the task. My inexperience, and lack of reliable data, made of a rather small accomplishment a long and tedious job. It is my hope that what is recorded here will prove to be only the beginning of a more complete and more satisfactory history. Acknowledgement is here made for important information furnished by Mrs. Alice Carmichael Smith, Miss Margaret Dunn, Mrs. Katherine Adams, my older sisters whose knowledge of family relations was very valuable, and many others who have contributed information and made this record possible
W. W. Carmichael.
