Notes

  • William Bunyan, learned the trade of a Carpenter, before moving to America around 1829.
In 1832 he married Rosetta, they lived in a single shanty while he was preparing there home. He had limited monies and tools in which to build there new home, selling shingles was the only way they could pay for there home.

Shingles were made of straight grained pine. after felling the trees, they were sawed in shingle length, split and made into shingles with a draw shave. These were then packed into bundles by means of sticks & wooden pins.

William would travel twenty miles to Towanda to sell these, then travel back but only made the trip every other day.

1871 he was elected as county treasurer of Bradford County. He died in the family home he built in 1882.

Bunyan Hill School was named after him.
